All Jazzed Up and Ready to Fight

By Bill Green

The message from Honda New Zealand’s new team at the launch of the third generation Jazz in Auckland was that they want to take back the top slot in the micro car market with the latest incarnation of Jazz.

This is a car that wowed everyone at its initial launch with its space, versatility and ease of operation, now it’s gone more than one step further, its more spacious thanks to its new chassis, and it definitely handles so much better. It still retains the step in styling that won it plenty of accolades, while its ’Magic’ seats are there for load carrying ease.

My how it’s grown up to be so much better this generation. Honda New Zealand have launched four models including seven variants: S in CVT only, RS, RS Sport and Mugen all in CVT and manual with the hybrid version to come when it’s available to the market here. What is even more impressive is that they, Honda that is, have been able to bring this highly upspecced vehicle in at a lower price than the previous model.

The entry ‘S’ has 1300 power and CVT only. The rest get a peppy 1.5. Both engines have had major revision and are lighter, stronger, more reliable and definitely more fuel efficient plus they come with new generation 7 step CVT’s or six speed manual transmissions. The interior of all models is snappy and right up with the rest plus all models get satellite navigation as standard fare along with hill start assist. Honda have also introduced a five year warranty with unlimited kilometres and free roadside assistance for those five years plus this is transferable.

Pricing is impressive starting at $23,700 for the ‘S’ CVT and climbing to $30,900 for the Mugen CVT.
