New 2011 Accord Euro sets the benchmark for driveability, style and comfort

The 2011 Accord Euro’s new features, superior styling and fuel efficient sporty driveability have just made this medium sized vehicle range the most desirable for the discerning Kiwi driver.  Since its original addition to Honda New Zealand’s model line-up in 2003, the Accord Euro has always been acknowledged as a cut above the rest in premium performance, which delivers on all fronts and raises the bar in terms of driver expectation.

The fresh new styling to the front bumper and grille, headlights, detailing on the boot lid and rear lights, along with the new wheel design, enhance the Accord Euro’s sleek and sporty appearance. All Accord Euro models possess a distinctive, strong stance with a solid, planted feel.

The powerful 2.4-litre i-VTEC petrol engine boasts 148kW at 7,000 rpm with a peak torque of 234Nm at 4,400 rpm matched to a 6-speed manual transmission or a 5-speed automatic transmission, depending on the model. The 5-speed automatic transmission has a straight ‘P R N D S' gate: Racing inspired steering wheel mounted shift paddles can be used in D and S modes, providing instant sequential shift mode or full manual shifting.

Exceptional environmental credentials have been achieved, and not at the expense of driving enjoyment. The Accord Euro’s effortless performance is all the more exciting because of its impressive official fuel economy figure of 8.9 L/100km for both the manual and automatic sedan, whilst the Tourer’s is 9.1 L/100km. In Honda’s local real-world driving Optimal NZ Drive Test, the Euro sedan achieved exceptional figures of 6.49 L/100km and 6.53 L/100km for the manual and automatic respectively, whilst the Tourer was even more impressive at 6.36L/100km. Both variants also performed very well at the recently held AA Energywise Rally with the Sedan achieving 7.54L/100km and the Tourer 7.50L/100km.

Enthusiastic drivers will appreciate the 2011 Accord Euro's superior agility. A low centre of gravity, a wide track and front double wishbone and rear multilink suspension with variable rate dampers, plus great body rigidity mean that the Accord Euro almost instinctively reacts to driver input. Handling is responsive and confidence-inspiring with limited body roll.

Dynamic safety control technologies combine with advanced passive protection technologies to provide greater security than even its top 5 Star Euro NCAP safety rating can indicate. The Accord Euro features well-weighted steering with the innovative Motion Adaptive Power Steering system in which the capabilities of both Electronic Stability Control (Honda’s VSA) – which is standard across the range – and the car's electric power steering are brought to bear. Called Motion Adaptive EPS (Electric Power Steering), it detects instability and loss of grip during cornering, on uneven surfaces and under braking, and provides an intuitive prompt through the steering wheel to reinforce steering in the correct direction to correct the problem. The input is subtle and control of the steering remains with the driver at all times.

These systems boost the Accord Euro's extensive safety features which include front seatbelt pre-tensioners and load limiters, dual stage front airbags, driver and front passenger side airbags with Occupant Position Detection System (OPDS), full length curtain airbags and ISOFIX fittings and tether anchor points for secure child-seat fixture on all models. There are also front seat active headrests.  Additionally, the Accord Euro's Advanced Compatibility Engineering (ACE) Body Structure provides significantly enhanced occupant protection in a variety of real-world crash conditions.

The 2011 Accord Euro's comprehensive specification list includes power windows all round with auto up/down and an obstruction detection device; a jack-knife key that can be stowed away comfortably, partnered with a key-fob operated window and sunroof open/close function and memory seat key link – extremely useful for those vehicles with multiple drivers; dual-zone automatic climate control with rear seat vents. The glovebox and centre console storage box have a feed from the climate control system enabling drinks to be cooled or warmed.

Other new features designed to take the overall driving experience to the next level include Bluetooth integration for mobile device synchronisation, Trailer Stability Assist, a premium seat design and a modified dash layout which further enhances driver usage. The 2011 Accord Euro also has the addition of USB input jack for iPod and memory stick audio integration played through its premium audio system delivering 415 watts through 8 channels and 10 speakers, including a centre speaker and subwoofer.

The Euro L Sedan and Tourer models add leather interior, sunroof, front fog lamps, power front seats, front and rear parking sensors, rain sensing wipers and auto headlights. The Tourer also features dark privacy glass in the rear and a retractable tonneau cover to provide security for stored items.

You can deliver true art in motion by choosing any Accord Euro as an RSport model, which comes with front and rear Sport bumpers and side skirts.
