The Women’s World Car of the Year awards have been announced and Honda has taken two category wins, an unprecedented achievement for a manufacturer, with the Civic winning the “Family Car” Category, and the Jazz winning the “Budget Car” category.

The awards, now in their seventh year, are the only global car honours voted for exclusively by female automotive journalists.

Judged by a panel of 17 female journalists from 14 countries, including two from New Zealand, the judges consider criteria women utilise when buying a car - safety, value for money, aesthetic appearance, storage space, child friendliness, ease of driving, colour, sex appeal and environmental footprint.

Sandy Myhre, CEO and founder of the Women’s World Car of the Year says: “From the early lists the judges sent in there were some strong contenders in one or two categories but mostly only a few percentage points separate the top three cars in each segment. Honda must be congratulated for winning two categories – the Family Car Award for the Honda Civic and the Budget Car Award for the Honda Jazz.”

The voting process for Women’s Car of the Year awards is rigorous. Each member of the global judging panel submits their personal nominations. This year’s awards saw 294 cars nominated. The nominated cars are then reduced to a shortlist of 32 cars in six different categories. Honda is the only manufacturer to take multiple category titles.
