This car would not be a Type R without the signature aerodynamics. The body kit with carbon-fibre effect and red accent lines, air vents, and a large rear wing certainly make a visual statement.

Every aspect of the exterior design also has an engineering purpose. Small fins along the rear hatch combine with the wing to increase downforce. The newly designed grille is 13 percentage larger allowing for greater airflow.

The three large center-mounted exhaust outlets produce the performance sound a Type R driver is after.

Displaying sharply detailed 20" black alloys with low profile, performance tyres and a low aggressive stance, this is not a car for the faint-hearted.

It may have a motorsport feel but it’s not lacking in equipment or comfort.

The interior is equipped with red suede racing-inspired front bucket seats, carbon fibre panels and red accents throughout, alloy sports pedals and dual-zone automatic climate control.

The new Type R sports an Alcantara wrapped steering wheel and a newly restyled shift lever knob for improved shift feel and accuracy.

A 7-inch touch screen with Smartphone connectivity, including Apple CarPlay™ and Android Auto™.

The Type R features a customisable digital display including REV metre, G metre, lap timer, and throttle and brake % allowing you to monitor your driving performance.

Power is provided by a 2.0L, 4 cylinder, 16 valve, VTEC turbo, intercooled, chain drive DOHC engine that’s direct-injected to produce impressive power and torque.

Throttle response and drivability are optimised through engine control settings.

A limited slip differential offers tighter cornering, better control and exceptional road and track handling.

To date, Type R enthusiasts & motoring journalists alike approve of the 6 speed manual transmission which is both smooth and precise.

The transmission is further enhanced by a sophisticated rev match control system.

Just because it’s a car unashamedly aimed at the pursuit of driving pleasure, the driver can choose from three driving modes -Comfort, Sport, and +R for the track.

Each selection tailors the adaptive dampers, steering force, gear shift feeling and throttle response of the car on demand.

This way the driver can decide if the Type R is a smooth, cruisey ride for around town, a little firmer for the open road or heart-racingly, screamingly crazy when you want it to be.

The Type R incorporates Honda's Next Generation Advanced Compatibility Engineering (ACE), Agile Handling Assist (AHA) and the latest Honda Sensing Safety and Driver Assistive technologies.

Honda Sensing includes Collision Mitigation Braking, Forward Collision Warning, Lane Departure Warning, Lane Keep Assist, Road Departure Mitigation and Adaptive Cruise Control.

The Type R also has the LaneWatch camera, mounted on the passenger side mirror, which reduces your blindspot by displaying what's on your left on the centre touch screen when activated by the left indicator.

Exclusive to the new Type R is the LogR performance datalogger. A system combining the onboard computer and built-in sensors with a companion smartphone app to help drivers monitor and improve their technique.

The Performance Monitor provides vehicle information to the driver on the Display screen. Log mode records lap times, allowing drivers to improve their skills. Auto Score encourages smooth driving by monitoring braking, acceleration and steering.

The app offers a more in-depth analysis including previous drives, performance traces and replays using Google Maps.
